One apprehended for attempted smuggling of rhino horn to Nepal in Naxalbari

Naxalbari, 23rd June: In a significant breakthrough against wildlife trafficking, authorities apprehended a smuggler attempting to illegally transport a rhinoceros horn into Nepal. The arrested individual, identified as Ajit Kumar Singh, hails from Manipur.


Acting on a tip-off, a joint operation was launched by the 41st battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the Tukriajhar forest department. The raid took place at Satbhaiya toll plaza in Naxalbari, resulting in the arrest. During the search, authorities recovered a rhinoceros horn weighing 1 kilogram and 25 grams from the suspect.

Following the arrest, the rhino horn will be sent to the Zoological Survey of India for further analysis. The arrest has sparked a broader investigation, with several other individuals being implicated in this wildlife trafficking network. Authorities plan to intensify their search efforts to dismantle the entire smuggling ring by remanding Ajit Kumar Singh for further interrogation.
