Fulbari, 15th September: The bodies of two students who drowned in the Mahananda River in Fulbari were recovered by an NDRF team on Tuesday morning. The bodies were found together, with the two friends reportedly holding on to each other.
Following the recovery, Phansidewa Police sent the bodies to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for post-mortem examination.
It is to be noted that the two students had gone to bathe in the Mahananda River at Fulbari Mahananda Barrage along with another student on Sunday afternoon. While one student was rescued, the other two were swept away in the river.
One of the missing students was from Malda, while the other was a resident of Bangladesh. Both were studying at Narayana School near Jatiakali and staying at the school hostel.
Since the incident, NDRF, SDRF and Civil Defence teams had been conducting a search operation to trace the missing students. Despite searches continuing until Monday night, they could not be located.
The two bodies were found together early Tuesday morning. An NDRF official said the bodies were recovered lying next to each other and that one student may have been holding the other’s hand when they drowned.
