Siliguri, 14th January: A non-governmental hospital located near Tinbatti More in the city is facing allegations of negligence after the death of a patient during surgery.
According to family sources, Kiron Kumari, a resident of Gurung Basti in Siliguri, was suffering from gallstones. She was admitted to the private hospital near Tinbatti More for treatment on Thursday. However, she passed away that same night during the medical procedure.
Upon receiving the news of her death, the family members began protesting strongly against the hospital. The family has alleged that the cause of Kiron’s death was an overdose of anesthesia administered during the operation. Following the allegations, the family lodged a formal complaint at NJP police station.
To prevent further escalation of the situation, a heavy police force, including the ACP, was deployed at the hospital. The police conducted videography and sent Kiron’s body for an autopsy at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
The cause of death will be determined after the autopsy on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the hospital management and medical staff have denied the family’s accusations, stating that there was no lapse in the treatment provided. They mentioned that deaths in such cases are rare. The news of Kiron’s death has brought immense sorrow to her family, as she leaves behind a 3-month-old son and her husband.
