MP Raju Bista thanks PM Modi and Finance Minister for launching welfare scheme for tea garden workers

Darjeeling, 24th July: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the introduction of the ‘Pradhan Mantri Cha Shramik Protsahan Yojana’ (PM-CSPY). This initiative is designed for the welfare of tea workers, especially women and their children, in West Bengal and Assam.

The scheme follows the announcement made during the Budget Speech of 2021-22, where Rs 1,000 crores were allocated for the welfare of tea workers and their families. PM-CSPY aims to make need-based interventions in tea garden areas, focusing on strengthening education and health services for tea workers. The scheme is set to be implemented during the fiscal years 2024-25 and 2025-26.

In his press release, Bista highlighted the dire state of health facilities and education infrastructure in the tea gardens of the region. The Central Government’s initiative aims to ensure holistic development, providing better health facilities, improved education, and overall social upliftment for the tea garden community.

Bista added that, since his election as the MP from the Darjeeling Lok Sabha constituency, he has dedicated himself to the welfare of tea garden and cinchona garden workers. He affirmed his commitment to continue working tirelessly to secure their land rights, dignified wages, and improved living conditions.
