Siliguri, 23rd July: A minor in Siliguri has tragically succumbed to dengue. In response, Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar and other officials, visited the family of the deceased. The Mayor reached the family’s home in Swami Nagar, Ward No. 07, on Tuesday morning to offer condolences and speak with the grieving relatives.

It is to be noted that, the minor was admitted to a nursing home last Saturday and diagnosed with dengue after an examination. Despite receiving treatment, the child passed away on Sunday.

Expressing his sorrow, Mayor Gautam Deb stated that this incident is deeply saddening. The family has alleged that the death resulted from medical negligence. A medical team has been formed to investigate, and an emergency meeting has been scheduled for today to address the matter. The Mayor also emphasized ongoing efforts by the Municipal Corporation to raise dengue awareness and clear accumulated water in various areas to prevent further cases. The health department will conduct a thorough review and submit a report.

Amit Jain, the leader of the opposition in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, criticized the corporation’s handling of the situation. He stated that the corporation has failed to properly engage its employees, leading to widespread water accumulation. Jain mentioned that he had repeatedly brought this issue to the corporation’s attention, but it was ignored.
