Siliguri, 22nd June: A young man was arrested by the Siliguri Woman Police Station for allegedly engaging in a physical relationship under false pretences of love and marriage. The accused, identified as Soukat Ghosh, a 34-year-old resident of Bagdogra, had reportedly connected with a girl from Shiv Mandir through a dating application approximately two years ago.
What initially appeared to be a blossoming love story gradually took a dark turn. It is alleged that Soukat repeatedly engaged in a physical relationship with the girl, using the promise of marriage as a lure. However, the truth came to light when the girl discovered that Soukat was also involved with another woman, whom he planned to marry in November.
This revelation led to heated arguments between the two individuals. Despite attempts by Soukat to reconcile with his girlfriend and take her to Kolkata, their disputes continued. Matters escalated when the girl allegedly faced physical assault by Soukat during their time in Kolkata. Subsequently, after returning to Siliguri, the girl lodged a written complaint against Soukat at the police station.
Acting on the complaint, the police initiated an investigation and successfully apprehended the accused from Bagdogra last night. Soukat Ghosh has been charged with cheating, engaging in a physical relationship under false pretences, and was presented before the Siliguri court today.
