Lovers who fled from Bangladesh and were living in Siliguri for three years arrested

Siliguri, 10th April: The SOG and Matigara police station have arrested the lovers who fled from Bangladesh and were living in Siliguri with a changed identity. The arrested Bangladeshi lovers have been identified as Sourav Mahanto and Tamanna Akhtar.


According to reports, Sourav Mahanto had entered India illegally with his girlfriend Tamanna Akhtar from Bangladesh about three years ago. Both were living in a rented house in Shantiniketan area under Matigara police station. Sourav Mahanto used to work in an online food delivery company. Finally, the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Siliguri Metropolitan arrested the Bangladeshi lovers.

According to information received from police sources, SOG had received tip-off information that Bangladeshis were living in the Shantiniketan area. Based on this information, SOG along with Matigara police station conducted a raid on Thursday morning and arrested both of them.


Police sources have revealed that Sourav Mahanto was not able to marry his girlfriend Tamanna Akhtar in Bangladesh due to religion. Therefore, the Bangladeshi couple fled from Bangladesh to India to live together. Both of them have been presented in Siliguri court on Thursday. Police is investigating the entire case.
