Fulbari, 11th March: Residents staged a protest, halting the PHE’s ongoing drinking water pipeline work in Fulbari.
As per reports, the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department has been laying pipelines for drinking water from Gajoldoba to Fulbari. The project has progressed significantly. However, while laying the pipeline through the paved road in Fulbari’s Paschim Dhantala, residents obstructed the work on Sunday.
The locals alleged that the pipeline work was causing traffic problems and affecting students appearing for the Higher Secondary examination. They also expressed concerns that future pipe leaks could damage the road.
The residents suggested that water should be sourced from the Teesta canal instead of digging the road for the pipeline.
Upon learning about the situation, SMC’s MMIC Dulal Dutta discussed the matter with locals and panchayat members. Following the discussions, Dutta informed that the pipeline work has been temporarily halted, and there are no further issues for now.
He added that the road being dug for the pipeline was constructed by SJDA and will be repaired after the pipeline is laid. Additionally, discussions will be held regarding certain areas that fall under private land.
