Phansidewa, 17th January: A leopard was injured after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the national highway. The incident occurred in the Kamala and Gangaram Tea Garden area of Phansidewa, near the Ghoshpukur locality.
Locals reported seeing the injured leopard lying on the Bagdogra-Ghoshpukur National Highway late at night. Upon receiving the information, officers from the Ghoshpukur Police Station, along with officials from the Ghoshpukur and Bagdogra forest departments and the Elephant Squad, rushed to the spot. The injured leopard was later located in a drain in the tea garden and was immediately sent to the Bengal Safari for treatment.
According to the forest department, the leopard was hit by a speeding vehicle, which caused the injuries.
