Siliguri, 23rd September: Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts of West Bengal and neighbouring state Sikkim are under red alert after the India Meteorological Department forecasted the regions to experience heavy rainfall starting September 21. Following this, heavy downpour lashed over the hills, as well as the plains, since last night causing a flood-like situation in several areas.
Reportedly, the incessant rainfall led to several landslides between a large area between Sevoke police station and Sevokeshwari Kali Bari. No vehicles were allowed to ply in NH-10 and NH-31. Road repair work was also hampered.
As a result, road communication was completely cut off between Sikkim, Kalimpong, and Dooars. For three days in a row, landslides are being witnessed in 29th Mile, NH-10. The road repair work has not been completed yet.
According to the meteorological department, if such a scenario continues, a disastrous situation will be witnessed in the hills.
