Jalpaiguri, 28th September: Jalpaiguri Traffic Police have launched a crackdown on e-rickshaw movement along national highways in the district in violation of government directives.
Highway Traffic Police, other police personnel and civic volunteers have been monitoring e-rickshaw movement on national highways since Monday morning.
Surveillance is being conducted in various areas to prevent illegal movement of e-rickshaws on national highways. During an operation at Goshala More in Jalpaiguri, Highway Traffic Police intercepted and detained several e-rickshaws found operating on the national highway.
Police said e-rickshaw movement on national highways could increase the risk of accidents and contribute to traffic congestion. The enforcement drive is being carried out to ensure compliance with government directives prohibiting e-rickshaw movement on national highways.
