Jalpaiguri, 28th September: Police have made a major breakthrough in the murder of bakery manager Hafizur Rahman in Nayabasti Para, with the Kotwali Police recovering the hammer and iron rod allegedly used in the crime.
The weapons were recovered after police took arrested bakery employee Noor Alam Sheikh to the crime scene. Hafizur Rahman was allegedly killed last Thursday night, after which Noor Alam fled with cash from the bakery. The manager’s body was recovered on Friday.
During the investigation, police identified Noor Alam from CCTV footage within hours of the incident and later arrested him from Murshidabad.
Police sources said Noor Alam was brought to Jalpaiguri on Saturday and produced before a court, which granted five days of police custody. During interrogation, he allegedly revealed that he had used a hammer and an iron rod to kill the manager. Police also learned that he had hidden the weapons inside a section of the bakery before fleeing.
On Sunday night, police took Noor Alam back to the bakery in Nayabasti. He showed the police the spot where he had hidden the weapons, following which the hammer and iron rod were recovered.
Police are investigating the motive behind the murder and whether anyone else was involved in the crime.
