Siliguri, 06th May: Amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, sculptures all over the world are being discovered with medical masks affixed to their mouths. This might be a gesture of symbolizing the importance of proper health measures to prevent spread of the virus, however it also comes out as offensive.
As per the report, upon noticing the statue of the legendary social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar with a mouth mask in Siliguri’s Ward No. 20, Mayor Ashok Bhattacharya put off the mask immediately and expressed disappointment over the issue.
The Mayor went on to criticize the act and further considered it to be ‘cheap-minded’ and also an ‘insult’ to the Bengali culture.
