Siliguri, 28th September: The Purba Chayan Para area, located adjacent to the Siliguri Eastern Bypass, has been submerged due to incessant rainfall over the past few days, causing significant distress for residents as water seeps into their homes.
Reports indicate that the continuous rainfall has resulted in widespread flooding in various localities, with Purba Chayan Para being notably affected. In addition to water accumulating on the roads, many houses in the area are now inundated.
Residents express frustration over the lack of proper drainage systems, which exacerbate the flooding during heavy rains. They report that when it rains, water often enters their homes, leading to numerous difficulties. Despite bringing the issue to the attention of the local panchayat, residents feel that no effective action has been taken.
On Saturday, local panchayat member visited the area and acknowledged the situation. He noted that he had previously worked in the area before the monsoon season. He explained that water from surrounding areas is contributing to the flooding, but assured that efforts are underway to prevent accumulation of water.
