‘Holding Centre’ being set up in Rajganj’s Fatapukur Old Market as part of state initiative

Rajganj, 27th May: A ‘Holding Centre’ is being set up at Fatapukur Old Market under Panikauri Gram Panchayat in Rajganj block as part of a wider state initiative across West Bengal.

According to reports, similar holding centres are being developed in several districts of the state for the temporary detention of illegal infiltrators, suspected foreign nationals, and Rohingyas before deportation procedures.

Administrative sources said individuals identified as residing illegally in the country will be kept at these centres for a specified period, following which necessary legal formalities will be completed for their repatriation to their respective countries.

Authorities are also strengthening surveillance and administrative arrangements at these facilities, keeping security considerations in mind.

The development of such holding centres is underway in multiple districts, and the proposed centre at Fatapukur Old Market has already sparked discussion among local residents.
