GTA Chairman Anit Thapa’s appeal to declare Christmas a public holiday in tea gardens

Kurseong, 24th December: Most of the workers in all the tea gardens under the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) are Christians. In this context, GTA chairman Anit Thapa has written to the state chief minister urging to declare Christmas a public holiday in the tea gardens under GTA area.

The move comes after the GTA chairman learnt that the workers are forced to go to work on December 25 (Christmas) and are not granted any leave.

Thapa said that he was hopeful that the Chief Minister will look into the matter and declare the day as a public holiday. He added that he believes every citizen should be able to celebrate the festival in accordance with their faith.
