Kharibari, 13th January: Sanjiv Roy, the General Manager of the Northeast Frontier Railway, arrived, on Monday, to inspect the Thakurganj railway station, where he faced protests from the Thakurganj Rail Passenger Committee.
Since no announcement was made regarding the operation of long-distance trains, the people protested under the banners of the Thakurganj Rail Passenger Committee and stopped the GM Special train. After halting the train at Thakurganj for about half an hour, the people moved away from the railway tracks after an assurance was provided by the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM). Meanwhile, the people warned of staging a fierce agitation if the demands were not met.
Apart from the Thakurganj Rail Passenger Committee, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), Taiyabpur Passenger Committee, Galgalia Rail Sangharsh Samiti, Nepal Bharat Maitri Sangh, and many common people also handed over letters of demand to the GM in Thakurganj.
