Naxalbari, 11th October: Foundation stones were laid for three rural road projects in Naxalbari ahead of Durga Puja to improve connectivity and ease public inconvenience. Ajay Oraon, Chairman of the District Panchayat Council and a member of the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad, laid the foundation stones for the projects.
The first project involves the reconstruction of a 407-metre stretch of road connecting State Highway 12 to the Asian Highway via Khemchi. The road had fallen into a dilapidated condition and serves students from three high schools, pilgrims and funeral processions. The project is estimated to cost around ₹8 lakh.
A 700-metre rural road from Naxalbari’s Station More to Deshbandhu Para will also be built at an estimated cost of ₹14 lakh.
The third project involves the construction of a 600-metre asphalt road in Babupara, stretching from the local bank past the post office to the MLA office. The project is expected to be completed within one and a half months at a cost of around ₹36 lakh.
According to Ajay Oraon, the foundation stones for all three projects were laid in accordance with the Chief Minister’s directives. He stated that the roads had been in poor condition and their reconstruction would benefit local residents.
Meanwhile, residents expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister, stating that the roads had become extremely difficult to use during the monsoon season due to their deteriorated condition.
