‘Enough is enough’: President Murmu denounces Kolkata doctor’s rape-murder incident, calls for action

News Desk: President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep outrage over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, marking her first public response to the horrific crime. In a statement given to PTI, she declared “enough is enough” and called for immediate action to combat violence against women.

The President’s comments follow widespread protests triggered by the discovery of the doctor’s body at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. President Murmu condemned the persistent criminal threats, highlighting that “criminals remained on the prowl elsewhere” even amid the protests.

She emphasized that no civilized society should tolerate such atrocities against women, urging for “honest, unbiased self-introspection” to address the root causes of these crimes.

Murmu criticized the “deplorable mindset” and “collective amnesia” regarding violence against women, stressing the need for a comprehensive approach to eradicate this issue from its roots.
