Siliguri, 02nd June: In a major breakthrough in the ongoing drive against narcotics trafficking, Siliguri Police have arrested a suspected drug peddler identified as ‘Madam Maya’ alias ‘Kali’ from the Fuleswari area. The accused was detained and booked under the NDPS Act and produced before the Siliguri court on Tuesday.
According to police sources, on May 25, a joint team of the Special Operations Group and Siliguri Police Station, in plain clothes, arrested three youths from Surya Sen Park near the Mahananda riverbank in Mahakalpally. Around 465 grams of brown sugar were recovered from their possession, with an estimated market value of several lakhs of rupees.
During interrogation, the arrested accused reportedly provided key leads regarding the source of the contraband. Following this, police intensified their investigation to trace the wider supply network.
Investigations further revealed links to illegal trade of narcotic injections in the Fuleswari area, suggesting involvement in a broader drug trafficking network.
Police said the accused had been evading arrest by frequently changing locations, but was finally tracked down and arrested based on specific intelligence inputs.
Officials believe the arrest could help in uncovering a wider drug trafficking network operating in Siliguri.
