Siliguri, 26th July: The decomposed body of a missing person was found near the railway line in the Pokhaijote area. The deceased, identified as Hasta Bahadur Thapa, hailed from New Pokhaijote. He had been missing since last Sunday, and despite the family’s relentless search efforts, no sign of him was found.
In the meantime, residents of New Pokhaijote area noticed a foul smell emanating from the nearby bushes since the previous day, assuming that it might be due to an animal’s death. However, this morning, a young man passing by the railway line spotted the lifeless body lying in the bushes. Promptly, the Pradhan Nagar police station was notified about the distressing discovery.
The deceased’s wife stated that her husband was known for his drinking habits and had left home on Sunday morning, since which he had not been seen. Despite searching various places, no clues about his whereabouts surfaced. This afternoon, a young man from the area informed her about the body, leading her to identify her husband at the scene.
Meanwhile, the police promptly arrived at the location and sent the body to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for a postmortem examination. The police are investigating the entire incident.
