Darjeeling’s social activist Rangu Sauria conferred with Banga Ratna Award

Siliguri, 01st February: Darjeeling’s social activist Rangu Sauria, who has played an important role in curbing the trafficking of women and children, was conferred with Banga Ratna Award, today.


The Chief Minister felicitated Rangu Sauria with the award during the Uttarbang Ustav at Baghajatin Park in Siliguri. Rangu Sauria has rescued over 8,000 women and children from the tea plantations in the border areas and backward areas from the clutches of traffickers, since 2004.

Despite facing numerous difficulties, Rangu Sauria stated that she strives to work for the benefit of women and children. Sauria said that she felt very good receiving the award from the hands of a woman. 


Speaking on the social stigma faced by women and children after being rescued from redlight and various other areas, Rangu Sauria said that such people are usually not accepted by their own families. In view of this, a home is being built in Siliguri for them. Sauria stated that she intends to build more such homes in the coming days
