Darjeeling, 23rd October: The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) recorded revenue of ₹1,41,23,100 in just 21 days during the Durga Puja season, with around 12,000 passengers travelling on its services between 1st October and 21st October this year, according to figures released by the railway.
The strong response highlights the continued popularity of the UNESCO-recognised heritage railway among tourists visiting Darjeeling during the festive season. The journey offers passengers scenic views of winding mountain routes, cloud-covered peaks and the natural beauty of the hills.
According to DHR officials, various tourism services introduced by the railway contributed to the strong performance during the Puja season. The railway continues to focus on preserving its heritage while improving the travel experience for passengers.
To accommodate the growing demand, the railway administration introduced additional Joy Ride services from the beginning of October this year.
The heritage railway has long been closely associated with Darjeeling’s tourism industry, and its growing popularity is also significant for the local tourism economy. The revenue of over ₹1.41 crore and around 12,000 passengers recorded in just 21 days mark a notable achievement for the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway during the festive season.
