Darjeeling District Basti Unnayan Samiti and CITU stage protest in support of various demands

Siliguri, 12th October: The railway department has decided to evict people residing on railway lands across the country. Meanwhile, notices have already been issued in several states.


Reportedly, the Railway Department has also decided to take the same initiative in Siliguri. The Darjeeling District Basti Unnayan Samiti and the CITU Darjeeling District Committee took to the streets today opposing the decision.

A rally commenced from Tinbatti more and concluded at the ADRM office. Besides, a 4-point memorandum was handed over to the railway officials.


Darjeeling District Basti Unnayan Samiti president Dilip Singh, secretary Ali Akbar Sheikh, CITU district secretary Saman Pathak and other leaders were present during the programme.

Dilip Singh strongly opposed the decision and alleged that 641 people are still deprived of land lease. He demanded to provide land lease soon and stop the eviction process immediately. He further warned of staging larger demonstrations if their demands are not met.
