COVID-19 vaccination drive begins in Darjeeling District 

Siliguri, 17th January: The country is witnessing a historical moment today with the launch of the world’s largest COVID-19 vaccination drive in India. The COVID-19 vaccination drive also kickstarted in Siliguri as per the instructions of the health department.


Reportedly, 100 health workers are to be vaccinated at Siliguri District Hospital on Saturday. An ambulance driver, a doctor and a nurse were the first to get vaccinated at the Siliguri District Hospital. ADM Sumant Sahay, District Chief Health Officer Pralay Acharya and SDO Priyadarshini S. were present at the Siliguri District Hospital during the vaccination process. ADM Sumant Sahay said that the health workers willingly took the vaccine.

The vaccination process commenced after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nation-wide COVID-19 vaccination drive via video conference today.


Meanwhile, the vaccination process also started at North Bengal Medical College. At the same time, the vaccination process was started at North Bengal Medical College. Dr Rudranath Bhattacharya, Chairman of the Patients’ Welfare Association (Rogi Kalyan Samity) of NBMCH and Siliguri District Hospital, received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine at the NBMCH itself. His wife Dr Sangeeta Bhattacharya was also vaccinated.

It is to be noted, 18 thousand vaccines have come for Darjeeling district. The vaccination process started today at Siliguri District Hospital, North Bengal Medical College, Naxalbari, Phansidewa and Kharibari. On the other hand, the vaccination process also commenced at Darjeeling District Hospital, Kurseong Hospital in the hills.
