Cooch Behar, 02nd May: For the past 14 days, a girl is staging a sit-in protest outside her lover’s house demanding to get married. The incident surfaced from Bhotbari area of Mekhliganj block of Cooch Behar.
Reportedly, the girl is a resident of Dhupguri. She claimed that she has been in a love affair with Tauheedul Islam, a resident of Bhotbari, and that he asked her to come to Cooch Behar. Allegedly, when Tauheedul’s family disapproved of their relationship, she was compelled to stage a ‘dharna’ in front of his house for the last 14 days. On the other hand, Tauheedul’s family asserted that the girl’s allegation is false and that she is trying to defame them.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the women’s right activists forcibly made the girl enter Tauheedul’s house. Upon receving the news, the Mekhliganj Police arrived and intervened in the matter. As of now, the alleged lover and his family members are absconding.
