Cooch Behar District-Council Chairman prevented from entering women’s dorm

Cooch Behar, 28th January: Cooch Behar District-Council Chairman Umakant Barman was stopped from entering the Cooch Behar Sahid Bandana Smriti Mahila, a government residence during the ‘Didir Doot’ campaign. Stir ensued following the incident in the area.


Reportedly, Umakant Barman, leader of TMC and Chairman of Cooch Behar District-Council, was attending CM’s program in the Baburhat area of Guriyahati-2 Gram Panchayat Nilkuthi in Cooch Behar on Saturday. During this, Trinamool leader and District Council executive officer Abdul Jalil Ahmed and other leaders were present. Cooch Behar District Council Chairman Umakant Barman also visited the school in the Baburhat area including the Anganwadi center. However, Chairman Umakant Barman alleged that when he wanted to enter the Cooch Behar Sahid Bandana Smriti Mahila Awas located in the said area, he was stopped. After standing for more than half an hour, when he was asked to go inside, after which he refused to enter the residence.

Cooch Behar District Council Chairman Umakant Barman said that a few days back, state minister Shashi Panja had come to visit the said women’s home. Today, during his program, he was passing by the residence, so he thought of taking a tour, but the hostel in charge stopped him from entering. However, later he was asked to go inside, but he did not go.
