Rajganj, 04th November: A container truck carrying buffaloes was seized by Rajganj police near the Fatapukur toll gate on the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway (NH), leading to the arrest of the driver.
The raid, conducted late Sunday night, uncovered 21 buffaloes and 22 buffalo calves inside the container truck. The driver was taken into custody for failing to produce valid documentation for transporting the animals.
According to police sources, the container was en route from Bihar to Assam and was intercepted following a tip-off. The arrested driver was presented before the Jalpaiguri court on Monday.
In a related incident, Belakoba Outpost police, acting on another tip-off, conducted a raid in Dangapara of Majhiali Gram Panchayat, Rajganj, where they found 39 buffaloes and 44 buffalo calves. No arrests were made in this instance, and an investigation into the matter is underway.
