CBI arrests contractor and government official in Siliguri in bribery case

Siliguri, 04th April: Allegations have emerged of a bribe being paid to a government official for securing contract in the MES Department of the Army. Following an investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested both a contractor and the government official involved.

Reportedly, the government official was arrested first on Thursday during a campaign conducted near Burdwan Road. Subsequently, the CBI raided the contractor’s residence located at Jagadish Bhattacharya Sarani in Ward No. 15 of Siliguri. Several CBI teams conducted raids across various parts of the city, with the search operation continuing throughout the night.

At around 3:30 a.m., CBI officials detained the contractor from his residence. Later, during the night, he was taken to the NHPC guest house in Fulbari. However, neither the CBI officials nor the contractor made any statements to the media.

Sources have revealed that the individual was a contractor in the MES department of the Army and allegedly bribed the government official to obtain work. The CBI was already monitoring the official prior to the arrest.

Currently, investigations are underway to determine who else may have had financial dealings with the accused.
