Siliguri, 28th July: The workers of All Union and Association of BSNL Siliguri went on a hunger strike in Siliguri with multiple demands.
It has been learned that the BSNL workers protested in support of multiple demands including license for 4G services, timely payment of salaries and payment of arrears.
In this regard, Sandeepan Bhattacharya, on behalf of the All Union and Association of BSNL, said that they have taken up this hunger strike with a 10-point demand. BSNL has arrears of Rs 39,000 crore but the money is not being paid by the central government despite repeated requests.
“We are going on this symbolic hunger strike in protest of the plan to hand over the towers of BSNL to the private sector without solving the problems of the pensioners and also against selling all the lands that the company owns,” he added.
He further warned of staging larger demonstrations if their demands are not met soon.
