Brown sugar worth 12 crores recovered in Siliguri

Siliguri, 09th February: Assam resident Ashiq Ali was arrested with brown sugar worth 12 crore rupees from the Phansidewa area, Siliguri. The police produced Ashiq before the court, on Sunday, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and demanded 14 days remand.


Earlier, the Phansidewa Police Station received a piece of confidential information regarding the drugs which were being taken to Kolkata from Guwahati via the Phansidewa National route in a vehicle. Based on the tip-off, the police suspended the car during a Naka Checking and successfully recovered 4.9 kg of brown sugar after an intensive search of the car.
