Naxalbari, 14th November: In a tragic incident, two brothers lost their lives in an elephant attack in Naxalbari. The incident occurred late on Wednesday night in the Maurijote area of Hatighisa near Naxalbari located in the Siliguri subdivision. The deceased brothers, Sanjay Oraon and Ajay Oraon, worked as security guards.
As per reports, the brothers were returning home on their motorcycle after finishing their work. They encountered a wild elephant while passing the area near Kestopur. The alarmed elephant suddenly attacked the two and Sanjay was painfully killed on the spot, while his brother Ajay suffered severe injuries. He was rushed to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Local reports confirmed that the elephant attacked the brothers while they were riding a motorcycle on the rural road. Following the incident, Arun Ghosh, Sabhadhipati of the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad, visited the bereaved family and assured them of his support during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, Debesh Pandey, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Kurseong Range, stated that the forest department is considering providing financial assistance to the victims’ families under department guidelines.
