Siliguri, 31st May: A theft incident at Mahashakti Kalibari temple in Laketown area of Siliguri has caused concern among locals after miscreants broke open the temple lock and decamped with valuables.
According to reports, temple priest and other devotees arrived on Sunday morning and found the main door lock broken. On entering the premises, they discovered that ornaments of the deity and several puja items were missing.
The miscreants also broke open the donation box and fled with around ₹30,000 in cash. In a further attempt to destroy evidence, they reportedly removed the hard disk of the temple’s CCTV system.
New Jalpaiguri Police were immediately informed and reached the spot to begin an investigation.
Locals have demanded swift action, including the arrest of those involved and recovery of the stolen items.
