Siliguri, 28th June: A wave of tension has swept in the area following the tearing of Trinamool Congress banners and festoons ahead of the upcoming panchayat elections. The incident occurred on Tuesday night at booth number 19/68, 69 in Baribhasha, under Dabgram Circle No. 02. The incident has provoked protests from Trinamool Congress workers and supporters.
Trinamool Congress alleged that the banners and festoons were erected for campaign purposes in the area and were intentionally torn under the cover of darkness. They firmly believe that their opponents orchestrated this act. On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed that their own banners and festoons were also torn. However, they chose not to lodge a complaint in order to prevent any further propagation of tension and to maintain an atmosphere of harmony.
