Bijanbari-Pulbazar to remain closed from June 13 to June 20

Bijanbari, 11th June: While the state government has announced a waiver for lockdown as a measure of convenience to all, the scenario is much different at the local level. Local associations have been announcing the closure of markets in various parts of the Darjeeling hills to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Likewise, the historic market of Pulbazar, about 87 km away from Siliguri, has been decided to remain shut from June 13 to June 20. The Pulbazar Haat (a weekly market) is one of the largest markets in the district after Matigara.

According to Pasang Lepcha, President of COVID-19 Help Desk, the Haat that takes place every Friday has been discontinued in view of the pandemic. Except during emergencies, the movement of individuals and vehicle parking will not be permitted in the Pulbazar area.
