Siliguri, 21st August: The police of Bhakti Nagar police station arrested five women with huge quantities of cannabis on Saturday night. The accused have been identified as Aarti Kujur (62), Kabita Kujur (45), Priyanka Sahu (20), Anjali Sahni (24), and Phoolo Roy (18). Aarti, Kabita, Priyanka, and Anjali are said to be residents of the Rana Busty area under Matigara Police Station, and Phoolo Roy a resident of the Gate Bazaar area under Pradhan Nagar Police Station.
Reportedly, the Bhakti Nagar police station received a tip-off and went undercover and launched a campaign on the bus coming that was from Cooch Behar to Siliguri. During which five suspicious trolley bags were recovered from inside the bus. More than 40 kgs of cannabis were recovered when the bag was searched. On conducting further interrogation it was found that the bag belonged to five women.
The police arrested the five alleged smugglers and found out that they were smuggling the drugs out of greed for money. A case has been registered against the five women under the NDPS Act. The alleged accused were presented in the Jalpaiguri court today.
