Bangla Pokkho organization stages a protest against road name changes in Siliguri

Siliguri, 14th January: The Bangla Pokkho organization staged a protest in front of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, against the name changes of several important roads in the city. The organization has demanded that the rights of Bengal and Bengalis should be maintained and hence the words “More” or “Sarani” should be used instead of the Hindi word “Chowk”.


Apart from this, the organization raised the demand that the Bengali language should be used in the signboards or banners in front of various shops on the streets. A memorandum was submitted to Deputy Mayor Ramabhajan Mahato today in support of various demands from the organization.

Tuhin Bhowmik on behalf of the organization stated that the deputy mayor has assured to fulfill their demands. They warned of staging larger demonstrations if their demands are not met soon.
