Bagdogra Airport Taxi Association discontinues service in support of various demands

Siliguri, 02nd February: The Bagdogra Airport Taxi Association staged a protest in support of the 8-point demands. Starting today, all taxi services were discontinued at the Bagdogra Airport on behalf of the association. In view of the inconvenience faced by the travellers, the administration started NBSTC bus service.

Siraj Bhowmik, president of Bagdogra Airport Taxi Association said that they have been demonstrating in support of 8-point demands since November. Their demands include tax exemption during the lockdown period, revised fare chart and relief from police harassment.

Bhowmik further added that top officials were also apprised regarding their demands, but no solution was provided to them. With no other option left, the association decided to discontinue all taxi services starting today.

Meanwhile, the tourists as well as the locals arriving at Bagdogra Airport are facing difficulties due to the protest. With a limited number of rental vehicles available, they are being forced to wait at the airport for hours.

Denying all speculations, Bagdogra Airport Director P. Subramaniam, through a telephonic conversation, said that the passengers are not facing any problems and that the situation is completely normal. In view of the association’s strike, the bus service of NBSTC has been started by the state government.
