Siliguri, 02nd November: Pradhan Nagar Police have detained another employee of a private bank in connection with a cyber fraud case involving more than ₹91 lakh. The development comes a day after the arrest of the bank’s Deputy Branch Manager, Anirban Sikdar (36).
According to police sources, Anirban Sikdar was arrested on Friday from the private bank’s main branch at Golden Plaza Building on Burdwan Road. He was produced before the Siliguri court on Saturday, which remanded him to three days of police custody.
During interrogation, police reportedly obtained several important leads from Sikdar. Acting on the information, Pradhan Nagar Police detained another employee of the same bank over alleged involvement in the cyber fraud network. Police are questioning the employee to ascertain his role in the case and whether other bank employees were also connected to the network.
It may be noted that Pradhan Nagar Police had arrested Manisha Mandal on October 26 under Operation Cyber Prahar in connection with the cyber fraud involving more than ₹91 lakh.
Police have also seized several new digital pieces of evidence during the investigation. Investigators are now trying to uncover the wider network and identify the alleged mastermind behind the fraud.
