Kharibari, 05th September: A distressing incident in Kharibari has added to the string of assaults in Siliguri. A fifth-grade student was allegedly subjected to sexual assault by her neighbor. The accused, identified as Sitaram Singh, is now in custody following his arrest.
According to sources, the accused had been repeatedly molesting the minor in exchange for money over the past month. The incident only came to light when family members grew suspicious about the unexplained money in the young girl’s possession. Subsequently, the victim admitted to the horrifying ordeal, leading to the immediate filing of a formal complaint at the Kharibari police station.
Following his arrest, Sitaram Singh was presented before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Tuesday, where legal proceedings are expected to unfold. Meanwhile, the family of the minor demanded death penalty for the accused.
