Alipurduar teacher and writer returns Banga Ratna Award in protest against state’s handling of R.G. Kar case

Alipurduar, 25th August: In response to discontentment with the state government’s handling of the R.G. Kar incident, renowned teacher and author from Alipurduar, Parimal Dey, has decided to return the Banga Ratna Award. The announcement was made during a press conference on Sunday.


According to reports, Parimal Dey, who was honoured with the award by the Chief Minister at the ‘Uttarbanga Utsav’ held at Kanchanjunga Stadium in 2016, expressed his discontent with the state government’s response to the recent rape and murder case at R.G. Kar Hospital. The case has stirred widespread outrage across the state and the nation, with demands for the arrest and severe punishment of the culprits.

Meanwhile, disappointed with the state government’s approach, Dey has decided to return both the award and the accompanying cash prize of one lakh rupees, as per his statement in the press conference.
