8th edition of Darjeeling Hill Marathon concludes with great pomp in Darjeeling

Darjeeling, 03rd December: Darjeeling Police’s 8th edition of Darjeeling Hill Marathon, one of the largest marathon races in eastern and northeastern India, concluded today with great pomp in Darjeeling. The theme of the Marathon this year was “Run for Unity” which encompasses the idea of universal brotherhood.


Kargil War veteran and India’s first blade runner Major DP Singh, Former captain of Indian national football team Bhaichung Bhutia, Former India hockey captain and goalkeeper Bharat Chettri, North Bengal IG, DIG of Darjeeling, SP, SP of Kalimpong, Indian-Nepali Sherpa Everest climber Jamling Tenzing Norgay, Indian footballer Nadong Bhutia and other officials were present during the event. 


In the 10 km Open Men’s Race of Darjeeling Hill Marathon, Prashant Ropal bagged the first position, Mohammad Majruddin the second and Riwaj Chhetri secured the third position. In the Women’s Race, Anjuli Subba came first, Jyoti second and Binita Gurjar third. The first, second and third place winners of the competition were awarded trophies with cash prizes of 25, 15 and 10 thousand rupees respectively. 

Similarly, the main attraction of today’s marathon was the 21 km Open Race where Anish Thapa, Durga Bahadur Buddha and Niraj Kumar Maurya were declared as winners. The first, second and third place finishers of both the categories in the 21 km marathon were awarded trophies with cash prizes of 1 lakh, 50 and 25 thousand rupees respectively by the chief guests.
