Phansidewa, 07th June: A tragic incident unfolded where a girl drowned while attempting to fish in a pond. The incident took place in the Hetmuri area in Singhijhora of Phansidewa. The deceased has been identified as Nikita Lakra (10).
As per reports, earlier this morning, the girl went fishing in the pond while helping her father with farming. During this, Nikita accidentally fell and drowned in the deep water. Hearing her screams, the locals gathered at the spot. However, the girl lost her life and later her lifeless body was recovered. Upon receiving the news, the Bagdogra police arrived at the spot.
Later, the body was sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for a post-mortem examination. Locals speculated that the girl may have been bitten by a snake due to which she accidentally slipped and fell into the pond.
