Uttarkanya Abhiyan For Minimum Wage To Be In Siliguri On Jan 24

The Joint Forum has initiated the ‘Uttarkanya Chalo Abhiyan’ for the tea estate workers’ minimum wages in Siliguri on January 24.

The news was confirmed by the Convener of the Joint Forum, Jiya-ul Aalam, at a press conference that was held today. A member of the Joint Forum and the District Secretary of CITU, Saman Pathak, said that the state government must resolve the ration issues that the tea estate workers face, or that cash should be given in exchange of it.

Saman Pathak also said that the protest has been planned after rejecting the state government’s proposal of fixing the plantation workers’ minimum wage at Rs. 17.50. He shared that the Joint Forum will be sitting on dharna in all tea estates on January 18 while the Uttarkanya Abhiyan has been planned for January 24.

According to Saman Pathak, a total of 27 trade unions will be supporting the movement.
