The Unnao rape victim, who is currently battling for her life with 90 percent burns, was beaten up, stabbed and set ablaze by five men, on Thursday. The victim was airlifted to Delhi and admitted to the Safdarjung Hospital and is on a ventilator. The five men also included the two of the rape accused, Shubham Trivedi and Shivam Trivedi.
The incident occurred when the 23-year-old Unnao rape victim was on her way to a court in Raebareli to attend a hearing in the rape case filed in December 2018.
The family of the victim stated that the accused Shubham Trivedi and Shivam Trivedi had threatened to kill her if she didn’t withdraw her gang-rape complaint. They also alleged that the Police took no actions because the duo had political connections.
All the five accused, Harishankar Trivedi, Ram Kishore Trivedi, Umesh Bajpai, Shivam, and Shubham Trivedi, involved in the attack on the Unnao rape case victim were arrested hours after the incident. Shubham Trivedi has been identified as the prime accused.
It was reported that in her statement to the Magistrate, the 23-year-old Unnao rape survivor alleged that Shivam and Shubham Trivedi had abducted and raped her in December 2018. She had filed a case against the two individuals in March 2019. Shubham, who was in jail in connection with the rape case, was released 10 days back on bail, i.e. November 2019.
After securing bail, Shubham started following and threatening her immediately. The victim and her family members complained to the Police in Unnao, several times, but the Police took no action.
According to reports, the villagers stated that they saw the victim running towards the village while she was still ablaze.
