Three men were arrested by the Vaishnav Nagar Police of Malda after the latter found the trio illegally transporting cattle animals via a lorry.
According to reports, the Vaishnav Nagar police had been running an operation in the PTS More area of national highway 34 late on Monday night. The police had been checking all goods-carrying vehicles when the livestock-carrying lorry came there.
The police found 24 cattle animals in the lorry; following which three people, including the lorry driver, were arrested on the spot.
The trio has been identified as Murshidabad’s Radhunathganj resident Sarikul Sheikh (20), Mothabari’s Mohammad Barqat ()45) and Astakh Ahmed (22).
As per police sources, the lorry was heading towards Jangipur in Murshidabad from Mothabari, Malda. The cattle animals are usually smuggled to Bangladesh from the Jangipur Indo-Bangladesh border.
The trio was presented at the Malda District Court today.
