Police Lathi-Charges, Arrests Six For Protesting Near Bypass In Islampur

Six farmers were arrested by the police during the time they were trying to protest against the construction of the bypass in Kathalbari, Islampur.

The administration decided to shift the construction work of the bypass from Siyaltore to Kathalbari today. According to sources, the farmers started protesting in the area; following which the police charged at them with canes and arrested six people.

The administration has claimed that the police had to lathi-charge because of self-defense. Due to the demonstration held by the Agricultural Land Protection Committee, the administration was not able to start the work in Siyaltore again.

The farmers of Kathalbari shared that the administration has been working without paying proper prices for their land. On the other hand, the administration has shared that the construction will not be stopped.
