Security check tightens in Siliguri ahead of Independence Day

Siliguri, 14th August: Security has been beefed up in the state ahead of the Independence Day celebrations in Siliguri and surrounding border areas along with the entire country. All public spaces in the city are being closely monitored. Streets and Naka checking has also been initiated.

The Siliguri Metropolitan Police has initiated special monitoring in and around the city to avoid any untoward incident. Security has been tightened at all important places including the city’s NJP station, Siliguri Junction, Bagdogra Airport.

While the security in border areas of Bangladesh and Nepal adjoining Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts has been increased, the SSB jawans are cautiously conducting their route march in the border. Search dogs are also being used along with an intensive search of the people passing through border areas.
