A red alert has been sounded in the unreserved areas around Teesta River due to the rise in water level. Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been sounded in the reserved areas.
Around 3,499 cumec of water has been released into the river from the Teesta Barriage. According to the Teesta Barriage Management, the water level of the Teesta River could rise even more. Meanwhile, the administration has started evacuating the residents from the unreserved areas.
It has been reported that Banarhat, Binnaguri and many other areas in Dooars may experience flood due to the heavy rainfall. Different areas in Jalpaiguri have been submerged under water due to the continuous rainfall.
