All political and apolitical parties of the hills that support the separate state of Gorkhaland have decided to meet in Kalimpong today at 1pm.
The unrest in the mountains marks close to 15 days now. So far, three people have lost their lives in the protests and many police officials were injured while trying to keep the peace intact in the region.
The violence that has been raging in the hills resulted in the GTA’s engineering division to be burnt down on Tuesday night. In Kalimpong, a sericulture office was set ablaze on Wednesday afternoon.
With the State adopting the ‘wait and watch’ approach and the Centre yet to intervene, the meeting in Kalimpong today will decide the next step for Gorkhaland.
